* Today’s 4th Uhuru Road Race exceeded expectations. There were 81 runners (more than double than in our last road race), and this was almost the exact number required, given the 78 pairs of training shoes donated from America. The 3 runners, who did not get shoes, instead received stylish caps.

* The women’s race was won by Adero Nyakisi (Prisons) and the men’s race by Isaac Kiprop (Standard High). The prizes for each race were:
1st – Ugandan Society Observed (book) by Kevin O’Connor;
2nd - Athletics Weekly (the UK’s top athletics magazine);
3rd – Observer Sports Monthly (leading British sports magazine).
