There is a scary pattern in military operations in which Yoseri Tuhaburwa Museveni is involved: the ease with which even the closest allies are sacrificed to gain a "greater good".
There are rumours that during exile in Tanzania most military plots against Idi Amin in which Tuhaburwa was involved somehow snaked all the way to Kampala. Some of the high profile arrests of guerrillas by Amin's security were suspect betrayals from within (the guerilla groups).
And during his bloody Luwero campaign this same methods seemed to have continued. One of the possible high profile betrayals was that of his commander; Sam Magara.
There are now reports that the tip-off that sent Joseph Kony packing originated from within the Ugandan government. There is also a growing feeling within Museveni's partners in the offensive against Kony that the tip to Kony was executed with instruction from the top echolons of the Ugandan government and intended to justify a prolonged sojourn in DRC.
A source inside the Southern Sudanese government whom I met a few days ago said the failing battle is causing divisions within the GOSS. A section of the GOSS was against the move from the beginning arguing that as mediators their role was not belligerent. They were also of opinion that Kony had genuine reasons to fear coming out before the ICC indictments are lifted given a historical pattern of Museveni's deliberate failures to respect accords reached with various groups.
This group argued that since it was the Ugandan government that initiated the ICC moves it had a sufficient role to play in asking for the removal of the indictments. This group feels that bulldozing Kony or even taking drastic belligerent measures would result into a resurgence of hostilities that could spiral across the entire region with monumental repercussions.
Furthermore this group feels that given that the Sudanese President, Omar el-Bashir, is beleaguered and by the same quarters as Kony, this could lead the two groups to some sort of accord and create a situation that could jeopardise the GOSS' determination to breakaway from Khartoum when they hold a referendum in a few years to come.
This group is reportedly coalescing around the GOSS vice-president, Riek Machar. But because a large section of the GOSS is made up of Dinka loyal to the GOSS president, Salva Kiir; Machar, whom many in this group see as a traitor who killed their people and went to bed with the Arabs, was overwhelmed and his position shot down.
Now it appears Machar is enjoying the "I-told-you" status.
My source also intimated that the GOSS had received a message from the Congolese government voicing its disgust at a deliberate leakage of the operational plan by agents in Kampala.
Congo is already said to be showing a lukewarm reception to the ongoing operation and if it continues to register ugly failures it is possible Congo could make an about turn.
Further details indicate that the Congolese government has landed on intelligence information that ties the operation against Kony to the war with Laurent Nkundabatware.
As regional attention was fixed on the unfolding reports of the military offensive against Kony, a section of the Ugandan army estimated to be around 500 men with arms, are said to have entered the Congo and joined Nkundabatware's fighters. Some of these are said to be a section of troops that were recently undergoing drills in Nakasongola -- a large number of them Tutsi refugees from within and without Uganda.
My source also indicated that the US, whose policies in the region are said to be making an about-turn following the victory of Barack Obama, may have monitored communication channels to Kony's satellite phone and have been able to locate exactly the source of the leakage.
Museveni quick response to the reported leak with claims that Kony was able to monitor UPDF radio communications was intended to deviate the search from the original source of leakage.
But every dog has its day and this current mess could help create a desire for the world to re-examine this man's evil machinations. If they zero on him as the source of the leakage, although it may never become a public knowledge, there will definitely be pressures for him to explain his actions (tipping-off Kony).

Hi RK Readers
I am operating in Juba, Sudan. But the investigation I have received from SPLA is that they are not supporting UPDF. And they have informed me that UPDF they are wearing uniforms which look like SPLA.
And people of Yambiyo Western Equatoria they are complaining on UPDF, that they the one who have been attacking reaping and stealing peoples food in the villagers and other areas of Sudan.

Merry xmass radio katwe, please allow me say that this so called operation lighening thunder in DRC has been a total failure from start. First it lacked one very important element that M7 has never understood called Military Intelligence. You do not win a war by sending in old T72 tanks and old Mig-21, You can never win Kony and his army by sending young Bahim boys as commanders because the war is not about Bahim and Kony. The so called military Intelligence is a total joke some of the friends in the struggle do not trust M7 so did not give them all the uptodate information.
For example the military intelligence of one of the allies know that Kony left camp 4 days before attack, why you can guess, 2-6 months ago Kony acquired a new type of SAM ie (Surface to are missile) did they know? If not why did the so called friends who are part of the operation not tell you? Please M7, do not sound more of a fool by talking abount Kony tapping the UPDF radio, this shows the enemy has better intelligence gathering and will always be ahead of you.

RK Happy New Year!
I have read the article,"Rifts growing in the Anti-Kony Coalition". I can totally agree that Joseph Kabila the DRC Prsident did not study the agreement well enough. I think he does not have very good intelligence. How can he allow M7 who is suppoting his enemy Nakunda to enter Congo with the army? How far did Mr. Kabila trust M7? Look at the strategy, M7 from the north east and Nakunda from the south east. It is a pitty for Kabilla.
I would suggest for Kabilla to nullilfy the "Operation Thunder-Lightining" for him to survive for more days in power. In this case, Kabilla has let down his people the (Congolese). Kabilla let me tell you that a friend of your enemy is your enemy. Think about it.
Mr. Kabilla if you are young, ask for help from other people. It is too late, M7 is already in Congo. Do not ask for $10 billion from Uganda. It is a game you are playing with your uncle Museveni to let the Congolese down. My prediction is two years will be too long for you in that chair. Nakunda Is eyeing it now.

This report of comment 1 is very true and valid. The UPDF it is true there are using the Govt forces to do dubious plans to the citizens of Uganda and what is very true is that most of the officers in the Army use the name LRA Kony to extort funds from the local tax payers money.
We Ugandans we need to watch out this mushrooming thieves
