We are receiving disturbing reports of how General Laurent Nkunda's troops have been conducting a genocide in eastern Congo but the world does not know what is happening.
The reports are from Congolese refugees who have been fleeing the fighting between Nkunda's forces and the Congolese government.
The refugees say the Nkunda troops will come without warning to a village near Goma, for example, and start killing civilians, be it men, women, and children indiscriminately.
Refugees in Kampala and the camp at Nakivale in western Uganda talk of jumping over dead bodies, many of them still with fresh blood and wounds, as they fled to Uganda. The refugees have talked of raping taking place on a terrible scale.
Radio Katwe gave you a story recently which quoted the New York Times as saying Nkunda's men were committing genocide. In fact because of these reports by the UN also, Sweden and Netherlands cut off some aid to Rwanda because Rwanda is actively supporting Nkunda.
A UPDF officer who was deployed in Congo after Uganda invaded Congo in 1998 said that they were given orders "from above" in Uganda to go to villages and shoot anything that moved, whether it was people or chickens.
This UPDF soldier, who was a Lieutenant then ( he may have been promoted, because we have lost touch with him) said he will never forget what the UPDF did in Congo. He said that if what his unit was ordered to do in a few villages is what the UPDF did in all the other villages where they were deployed, then he can believe the UN reports that over three million Congolese were killed while the UPDF was deployed there.
This is why we urge caution when you hear that the LRA and Kony killed over 400 civilians in eastern Congo last Christmas day. The LRA have committed attrocities, but the biggest culprit of that style of killing without any reason is the UDPF/NRA.
We urge all who have this evidence to bring it to the light so that it stands as a testimony for future generations on what happened to Uganda and the Great Lakes area when a man by the names Yoweri Museveni got power and went on a killing spree.
