Happy New Year
I'll stop here tonight and seal my mouth
Despite the painful groans I hear yonder
Despite the despicable looting of our NSSF
Irrespective of who is killing who in Congo
I'll stop here tonight and seal my mouth
For tradition demands reflection
The norm is to pose and celebrate
Putting onto the weighing scale the annual journey
I'll stop here tonight and seal my mouth
For the sacrifice of children is too much for my heart
The torture in "safe houses" revolts my conscience
The desperate cry of our own forced to poverty shatters my esteem
I'll stop here tonight and seal my mouth
Even though I know the rot in our national courtyard needs sweeping
The vermin gnawing the foundations of our nationhood needs to be fumigated
The citadel of our economic might is under the custody of robbers
I'll stop here tonight and seal my mouth
But not forever brother and sister
For I shall return even before cockcrow
To shame the devil amongst us
However tonight I'll stop here and seal my mouth
To say HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL
May the Almighty God bless our great Uganda
And enable us all rise up and unseal our mouths.
